The Parts I Kept is the debut album from Lenora James, a deeply personal R&B and soul record about the pieces of ourselves that survive love, loss, time, faith, disappointment, and change.

Lenora comes to music with a life already behind her. Raised in the South and shaped by the church where she first learned to sing, she spent years working ordinary jobs, putting dreams aside, navigating complicated relationships, and learning how much of herself she had given away trying to make things work. The loss of her mother changed the course of her life and forced her to confront how much time she had spent waiting for “someday.”

This album is what came after.

It is about growing older without disappearing, learning the difference between solitude and loneliness, grieving people who remain part of you long after they are gone, questioning the things you were raised to believe, and finally understanding that becoming yourself does not require erasing everything that came before.
